Boss MT-2Probably THE most well known distortion pedal on the planet. Some still love 'em, some say they hate 'em... but nearly everybody has owned at least one! I want to offer something for both the haters and the lovers. The guys that already like the Metal Zone will be floored when the hear my mods! The guys that don't like them will be in shock when they see where that tone is coming from. Here's what I do:The Bi-Polar Mod It's called "bi-polar" because it has two completely different attitudes available to you at the flick of a switch! In addition to the switch I remove those harsh highs and nasally mids that many associate with the Metal Zone. The distortion is fuller, less "buzzy", has more low end, and just flat out sounds good! The switch alters the EQ of the pedal. With the switch down the EQ available to you ranges from very convincing Marshall JCM tones and Mesa Boogie sounding tones that are equally as good! Switch up takes you into boutique territory. Really open, dynamic, and huge sounding with tons of complex harmonic detail! I owe many thanks to Brian Wampler of Indy Guitarist for this mod. I have done both of his MT-2 mods, the Dieznerr and the JCM/Boogie, and LOVED both of them so I wanted to put them both in the same pedal. It's not possible with one switch so I tried to come up with a happy medium between the two and actually discovered some great tones along the way by experimenting and changing things around! The Cerberus Mod The three headed monster!!! I start out with a mod right in-between the two Bi-Polar modes, take the sound improvements a few steps further, and give you a 3-WAY switch that will give you almost any great distortion tone imaginable PLUS a clean boost when the switch in in the middle position! Most will admit they love the versatile parametric EQ on the Metal Zone, I know I do! But used as a booster the pedal still lets too much distortion through even when the knob is all the way down. Death metal guys get away with it, Cannibal Corpse and Malevolent Creation have GREAT success boosting their Rectos with Metal Zones! All others seem to dislike it though, a booster isn't meant to add distortion before your amp. Well now you can have the glorious EQ and high volume output of the Metal Zone without the dirt! Works GREAT for taking your already distorted amp tone over the top with the added bonus of shaping your tone with the EQ before it makes it to your amp! Switch left is a very smooth, warm, saturated, tube-ish distortion. The tones of the 70's and 80's are easily achievable with this setting and some time tweaking EQ knobs! Switch right is balls to the wall, take no prisoners, face melting distortion with more sustain that you could ever want!!! Prices (includes US shipping): The "Bi-Polar" mod: $40 The Cerberus Mod: $45 I also offer new pedals already modded! Add $90 to the price of the mods for this option. |
